The Looney Bin Comedy Club (February 20th 2016)

JeffThe thing about working a comedy club as a photographer, whether you’re working for the club or working for yourself is always great. One: You get to see a free show. Two: You get to meet people you’ve never been in contact with and Three: You get a chance to be creative. I think those are the main three reasons, lol. I mean, those were/ are for me for I’ve been shooting on the comedy scene a very long time. From Brooklyn to Staten Island, it’s been a great place for me to hand out my business cards to audience members because someone at some point in life will need a photographer for something. You just never know, I’ve been preaching this for a few years to a few photographer friends of mine and I don’t know if any have taken the advice but for me I wouldn’t have a couple comedians’ head shots in my portfolio if I wasn’t that guy capturing the show at all angles and getting those shots of audience members with the comedian that may have picked on that audience member at some point in the show. Shout out to Kenny Williams, Tommy Gooch, Jamie Roberts & Hadiyah Robinson all the time. For the past few years I’ve been working for myself at The Looney Bin Comedy Club, thanks to Vic… and it’s been a great experience. This past Saturday night though….?

KendraSee, you have to be there to experience what I experience. You ever try to tell someone a joke you heard and you end up messing the joke up….? That’s why I’ll just stick to photographing comics, you have to throw something against the wall to see if it’ll stick. I was watermarking my images down the middle due to a couple comedians using my images on flyers and such and not crediting me but I think I’m over that. Well, to a degree. I got a chance to chop it up with the headliner Jeff Norris after the show, real cool guy. I tried my best to find Kendra Cunningham who was the opener but I think she left before I could put the speed light into the hot shoe of my camera. I’ll move a little faster next time… This Saturday February 27th at The Looney Bin, show host James Mattern and head liners Sergio Chicon & Buddy Flip. Trust me, I don’t work there and I’m not being paid to promote what goes on there but I’ll more than likely be there so stop in and pose for the camera..
